Born in Paris, Antoine-François, count de Fourcroy helped to establish a rational chemical nomenclature (1787) with a group that included Louis Bernard, baron of guyton de morveau, antoine de lavoisier, and Claude Louis, count of berthollet. Fourcroy did research on chemical affinities and analyzed the composition of several minerals. very moderate in his political views, he was a member of the Convention during the revolution of 1789. Fourcroy was elected to the Academy of Sciences in 1785.
